Day 44

Today was a horrible day. Ava is back on the oscillator after being off of it for a week. I called at 4am this morning and she was fine, but when I called at 8:30am, she was back on the oscillator. Her CO2 was in the 70s and 80s and her O2 was in the 90s. They did get her O2 down to 70%. Her amplitude is at 26, her mean is 14. She did look good when I saw her tonight. She is fatter and had good coloring.

We talked to the doctor and he said to us that this is because we just finished the steroids. He didn't feel that it was because of an infection, but he is giving her antibiotics just incase. He also told us that he has seen very few babies in Ava's situation in the 10 or so years he's been doing this. The babies he has seen have gotten this far before but they didn't survive. He did say that we shouldn't give up hope. We are pretty devastated. We still have hope though and Ava needs so many prayers. This is so exhausting and we are tired. Just last night I was thinking that we are almost halfway to getting her home. It's hard having the sickest baby in the whole NICU. Hopefully she gained more weight. We need to pray that she can keep eating and her stomach doesn't explode.

Praying to bring Ava home, healthy and happy...
