Day 49 - 7 weeks old!

Ava's blood gas was 60 this morning so that was better. They did not change any settings. They won't take a gas until tomorrow morning. They are also taking chest x-rays 3x a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday which is a good thing. She was still desatting up and down throughout the day. Unfortunately the nurses today and tonight don't know Ava as well, and they upped her O2 to 70 from the 58. The nurse last night knew that she didn't need to so she kept her at 58%. She is still a bit puffy from retaining water, but the description of how much water depends on the nurse. One nurse seems to describe it more than the other. The nurse today asked if I hold her head when I come in and I said yes. She then told me that Ava loves having this weighted bean bag lay on top of her head. She also told me that she is able to swallow some of her secretions now, so she is developing appropriately. She also can bring both of her arms up to her mouth which is what they want to see as well developmentally - that she is strong enough and that is a natural reflex.

Her head is now 27 cm, length is 13 1/8" and she is 2 lbs 12 oz.

The most positive thing is she's growing. She is so beautiful and I can't wait to hold her and bring her home.
